Welcome to the APA Citation Examples Page!
On this page we have listed for you a number of the most used citation examples. If you don't see the source you are looking for, please ask a member of the library staff for assistance, or check out your APA Publication Manual (make sure it's the 6th edition!).
Also, please do not format your references list like this. These are examples of individual citations only. In your final References list you will list each citation once, in alphabetical order by the authors' last names.

Notes on Journals: APA rule 6.32 (p. 189-192) tells you to use the DOI if one has been assigned. If a DOI has been assigned, no further information is required.
If there is no DOI, you need to provide the home page URL of the journal, book or report publisher.
In general it is not necessary to include database information, as journal coverage in a database may change over time, and it may be difficult to tell from which database an article has come.

| None. |
(Interviewee, personal communication, Month Day, Year). |
|
| You only reference personal communication with an in-text citation. |
(A. Smith, personal communication, January 1, 2011). |
Special Exceptions
You may have to cite two works by the same author, from the same year.
As per the APA 6th edition Publication Manual, rule 6.25 Order of References in the Reference list:
More than one work by the same author in the same year:
1. organize them in the reference list alphabetically by the title of the article or chapter
2. In your text assign letter suffixes to the year. The letter suffixes are lowercase letters, i.e. a, b, c, etc. and you place them immediately after the date, no space, inside the parentheses:
Author, A. B. (2011a)
Author, A. B. (2011b)
When you are citing the work in text, you will use the date with the suffix.
As stated by Author, 2011a, the sky is blue.
As stated by Author, 2011a, 2011b the sky is blue.
As we have seen in our look at the sky, "it is blue" (Author, 2011a, 2011b).
In your references list:
Arrange the list by the Title of the Article.
Author, A. B. (2011a). Title of Article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), pag-es.
Author, A. B. (2011b). Title of Article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), pag-es.
